breaking the veil
A visual documentation of Julia Anne Cordani’s DMA recital at UC San Diego. Through stark black and white photography, this essay captures the atmospheric tension of a program dedicated to medieval women mystics and their resistance to patriarchal structures.
From the shadow-drenched stage design to the candid intensity of rehearsal, these images reflect the "intimate quilt" of stories woven by eight contemporary composers. As both composer of Possession and observer, I focused on the interplay of light, silence, and presence, documenting the unseen labor and emotional depth behind the performance.
