Who is Carlos?

Carlos Felipe Rosas is an interdisciplinary artist merging oboe performance, experimental composition, and photography that explores time through sound + image.

Carlos Felipe Rosas is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist working across oboe performance, composition, and photography. He began musical studies at age five under Boris Glouzman, later earning a Cum Laude master’s from Amsterdam Conservatory under Ernest Rombout and baroque oboe as secondary instrument with Alfredo Bernardini.

As an oboist, Carlos is part of Mexico’s National Symphony Orchestra and ensembles worldwide, specializing in both contemporary repertoire and historical performance where he has performed along CEPROMUSIC, IMPULS, Le concert de la Loge and Symphonie Atlantique. His career spans stages across the world, including Mexico City Palacio de Bellas artes, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Vienna’s Musikverein.

Parallel to music, Carlos’ photography practice embraces contemplation of time and chance. His images prioritize "fortunate errors" and unplanned moments, serving as visual research for his doctoral work at UC San Diego. There, he investigates the paradox between photography’s frozen time and music’s temporal flow, translating images into compositions.

Carlos identifies as a sonic investigator, crafting works where photography and oboe performance dialogue through crafted imperfections and temporal elasticity. His creative philosophy centers on chosen solitude, whether walking with a camera or transforming photographic accidents into scores.
